Safety & Security Tip #5 - Anti-Lift Devices

I want to purely devote this week to securing something that is the bane of all of existence for those of us in the security world... the sliding glass door. I HATE THEM. There aren't many things I dislike more that make our homes more vulnerable. Let's mitigate the risk!

My grandmother was ahead of her time. She had three locks on hers. I am still not sure if they were there to keep me in or the "bad guys" out, but I suspect it was both. ;) It worked. Her neighbors were robbed four times on one side and twice on the other. She always asked my grandfather to lock the "top bolt".

The "top bolt" was an anti-lift device. If you have children, I recommend getting two - one at the top out of reach and one at the bottom. You can place them wherever your personal preference is if you are childfree. I like these because they can withstand the force of 1,000 pounds and are versatile enough to work as a "top" or "bottom bolt" as Grandma would've said.

Here are some key features that make it my favorite anti-lift lock:

  1. In the event that you want to crack the door open, you can still leave it in a locked position.

  2. It is next to impossible for sliding glass doors to be removed with one of these bad boys installed.

  3. It works on wood, aluminum, and vinyl.

  4. If you are like my husband and always going outside with your hands full, you don't need to worry because it comes fully equipped with a patented kick lock.

  5. For the value, this can not be beaten and it is no surprise why they are a top seller.
